Pakistan Cotton Ginners Forum Chairman Ehsanul Haq on Monday said that the federal government assigned target of 10 to 18 million of cotton bales for fiscal year 2025-26.

Ehsanul Haq said that cultivation of cotton has already started in the areas alongside the sea.

An increase of Rs500 is also being witnessed in the price of cotton which is now available at the rate of Rs17,500 per mound.

Ehsanul Haq further revealed that new agreements of cotton being inked at Rs13,500 per maund.

Earlier in February 2025, Cotton Ginners Forum Chairman Ehsanul Haq held a meeting with a team from the EU who visited Pakistan to assess compliance with 27 conventions. EU officials have warned that failure to meet these requirements could result in the suspension of GSP Plus benefits.

Haq highlighted concerns over Pakistan’s cotton sector, stating that production this year is about 50% below target due to flawed policies regarding imported cotton and cotton yarn.

Despite being 34% lower than last year, large unsold reserves of cotton and cotton yarn in ginning factories and spinning mills have created anxiety across the supply chain.
