The central government has cleared the early disbursement of August 2025 salaries, wages, and pensions for its employees and pensioners in Maharashtra and Kerala. The move comes in view of the upcoming Ganapati celebrations in Maharashtra and the Onam festivities in Kerala.The Finance Ministry has clarified that the payments will be treated as advance disbursals. The released salaries, pensions, and wages will later be adjusted against the final settlement for August or September 2025, once the full month’s entitlements are calculated.“The salary/wages/pension so disbursed is to be treated as advance payments and will be subject to adjustment after the full month’s salary/wages/pension of each employee/pensioner is determined. The adjustment, if any, will be made without exception from the salary/wages/ pension of the month of August 2025,” the memorandum by the ministry noted.
Maharashtra
In 2025, the Ganapati festival, or Ganesh Chaturthi, will be celebrated on August 27. The government has announced that the August 2025 salaries of all central government employees in Maharashtra, including those in defence, posts, and telecommunications, will be released in advance on Tuesday, August 26, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi. “In view of the ‘Ganapati’ festival, the Government has decided that the salary of all Central Government employees in the State of Maharashtra for the month of August 2025 may be drawn and disbursed by the Central Government offices (including Defence, Posts & Telecommunications) on August 26, 2025 (Tuesday),” the ministry of finance stated in an office memorandum dated August 22, 2025, as cited by the Economic Times.
Kerala
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, Onam in 2025 will be celebrated on September 4 and 5.As per an announcement by the central government, the August 2025 salaries of all central government employees in Kerala, including those in defence, posts and telecommunications, will be released in advance on Monday, August 25, ahead of the Onam festival.“In view of the ‘ONAM’ festival, the Government has decided that the salary/wages/pension of all Central Government employees in the State of Kerala may be drawn and disbursed by the Central Government offices (including Defence, Posts & Telecommunications) on 25-08-2025 (Monday),” the ministry of finance noted in an office memorandum dated August 21, 2025, as cited by the Economic Times.The circular stated that the wages of central government industrial employees in Kerala may also be released in advance on the specified date.The ministry has also asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to promptly inform all paying bank branches in Kerala and Maharashtra of these instructions for necessary action.
